Supporting GP practice to manage loss of pharmacy provision

Providing stability and reducing workload through responsive pharmacist support

At a critical point for Croft Medical Centre, the practice faced a sudden loss of pharmacy provision after leaving their base PCN. This created an immediate gap in support, placing additional pressure on GPs and administrative staff, while impacting the practice’s ability to manage workload efficiently.

The practice required a reliable and flexible solution that could be implemented quickly to restore service continuity and support patient care. They contacted MMS and we worked quickly and effectively to provide pharmacist support and ease the workload burden caused by their resource issues.

Approach

MMS stepped in to provide pharmacist-led support, onboarding quickly, and adapting to the specific needs of the practice.

Working closely with the team at Croft Medical Centre, MMS:

• Ensured clear understanding of requirements and priorities

• Delivered a rapid onboarding process to minimise disruption

• Integrated into existing workflows and practice systems

• Provided flexible support tailored to the evolving needs of the practice

• Ensured consistent communication through the MMS Operations team

This approach enabled the practice to regain control of day-to-day workload and maintain service quality during a period of change.

With MMS support in place, Croft Medical Centre experienced clear operational and patient care improvements:

• Reduced GP workload, with pharmacists completing tasks with minimal need for escalation

• Improved patient satisfaction through timely and effective pharmacy input

• Greater efficiency across the wider team

• Stabilisation of services following the loss of PCN pharmacy support

April 2026 activity highlights included:

• 55 hours of pharmacist support delivered

• 311 prescription (Rx) tasks completed

• 42 hospital discharge / medication reconciliations undertaken
